Submission Guidelines

While The Waverly Review is a literary magazine, we are open to all forms of art. This includes (but absolutely is not limited to) short stories, creative nonfiction, poetry, art, photography, and comics. We are also committed to highlighting young voices, so we ask that you only submit your work if you are between 14 and 24 years old. Because the magazine is oriented towards horror and gothic atmospheres and topics, please only submit art and writing in those genres.

We ask that you submit no more than three pieces at a time. There is no word or page limit, but please use your best judgment. All submissions should be sent to thewaverlyreview@gmail.com. Within a few days of receiving your submission, we will send you a confirmation email. There is no cost to submit, and the final magazine will be posted digitally on our website.

We open for submissions on September 1st at 8:00 AM Eastern Time. Our submission deadline is December 4th at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

  • All pieces should be submitted to thewaverlyreview@gmail.com.

  • Please include the phrase "ATTN: Submission" in your subject line.

  • Attach pieces separately as .doc, .docx, .jpeg, or .png. We will not accept PDFs.

    • If your piece requires a different file type, please reach out so we can discuss.

  • In the body of your email, include your submission type (poetry, photograph, etc.).

  • Provide a short third-person bio, roughly 2-4 sentences, that we may use in the magazine.

  • If you are submitting art, you are welcome to provide an artist's statement to use in the magazine.

  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but if your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know. We can only accept your piece if we are the first to publish it.

  • If accepted, we may make minor grammatical edits to your piece, but these will be sent to you to review.​

  • Pieces featuring AI-generated content will not be accepted.

Acceptance and rejection notifications will be sent out by mid-January. If your piece has been accepted, you will receive your edits in early February. We expect these to be reviewed in a timely manner, or we reserve the right to pull your piece from the magazine.​
